Tonight learn about ‪#‎DesiQ‬, a unique forum that brought together South Asian LGBTQ community members, activists, artists, academics, and cultural workers from across the U.S. and from the South Asian sub-continent earlier this month in San Francisco. Also we have a rich selection of Sri Lankan feminist poetry featuring the voices of Pireeni Sundaralingam and Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha.

At 10 a.m. tomorrow, join community members at One Post Plaza to rally for immigration reform. The Chinese Progressive Association and ASPIRE – Asian Students Promoting Immigrant Rights through Education – will hold Chinese lanterns and family photos to urge Congress to stand up for inclusive reform. Take a break from work, and join in the rally for an hour off of Market Street near Montgomery BART – feel free to bring a photo of your own to represent yourself and your family in this powerful event. https://www.facebook.com/events/169912783188389/

At 2 p.m. this Sunday, San Francisco’s International Hotel will honor the 100th birthday of “one of the fathers of the West Coast labor movement,” Larry Itliong. Philippine-born Itliong started organizing agricultural workers in the US in the 30s. Along with Philip Vera Cruz, Itliong organized the successful Delano grape strike in the 60s when workers walked off of farms of table-grape growers in demand of minimum wage. Sunday’s tribute will include a preview of Marissa Arroy’s upcoming film, The Delano Manongs, and conversation with Sid Valledor, special assistant to Larry Itliong and author of Americans with a Philippine Heritage: The Original Writings of Philip Vera Cruz. https://www.facebook.com/events/169649779881018/

At 5:30 p.m. on Monday in Union Square, as the President of the Philippines addresses the Filipino Congress at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City, Bay Area community members will gather in solidarity with the people of the Philippines as they “continue to fight against the tyranny and corruption of the government.” Allies, friends and families are welcome to join the People’s State of the Nation Address. https://www.facebook.com/events/612105965490571/
